For all those who forgot the arc Perfect Match, Lara-Su’s last crush in Power Rings was Vector. And it seems Vector is still a little touchy about it.
So I read the review on Sonic Stadium about their playtest of Sonic and the Secret Rings. As a Wii owner, I’m certainly excited about playing the game, and I’m certainly pleased about how positive the response to the game has been in general. It’s not out yet, but I’m holding out hope that it’s a good game. After all, we need a good Sonic game to wash the taste of Sonic 360 out of our mouths.
One way or another, Sonic and the Secret Rings will have an impact on the future of the Sonic franchise. As Kamal and I discussed earlier tonight, if it does poorly, then Sega could finally clue in that the status quo is no longer cutting it, and devote more effort to producing a better product, or in the worst case scenario, drop Sonic altogether. If it does well, then perhaps Sega will realize that the current Sonic Team just isn’t cutting it, and decide to drop some fresh blood into the development team. Secret Rings should have some lasting impact on the franchise. All that remains to be seen is what impact that will be.

So Sonic the Hedgehog for the PS3 has been released, and the sad part is that apparently the game is no better. In fact, it seems all Sega did with the two month delay was add a Hard Mode. Load times, glitches, everything else is the same, and from what I’ve read, the only difference really is framerates. Come on, Sega, get your act together! The game was buggy enough already, and that was already inexcusable!
Sonic and the Secret Rings is released on the 20th. If it doesn’t do well, I fear for the fate of the franchise.

Anyway, apparently there’re new rumours swirling about regarding the looooong in coming SatAM movie, only this time it’s turned into a trilogy of movies. As you can check out here the stories have been plotted and the animation studio picked out. All that’s left is to get Sega’s approval. Uh oh.
Sally as one of the main protagonists? Shadow as an unrelenting villain? Oh, yeah, Sega’s going to jump all over this. To smother it to death.
As a SatAM stalwart, I’ve been hoping for a movie for a long time. But let’s face it. After almost 15 years, and Sega’s hardline approach to mascot handling, I can’t see this as being anything more than a pile, assuming it ever sees the light of day.
Of course, it could also be the best thing ever to happen to Sonic’s franchise if everything plays out right. But let’s just say I’m not holding my breath.

For those who have forgotten, this is what Silver meant by the boulder.
While brainstorming ideas for Power Rings, Kamal and I decided that the idea of Silver and Lara-Su dating as we had previously joked about was an idea that we wanted to do more with. And I think you’ll all be pleased with the results.
In game related news, the latest issue of Nintendo Power has about 5 pages devoted to a preview of Sonic and the Secret Rings for the Wii. Some of it was information we already knew, like how the controls work, but there was some new information. First of all, the main villain is a Majin Buu lookalike named the Erazor Djin. Second, Sonic is assisted by a genie named Sahara. Third, the main characters from the Sonicverse do appear in the game, but not as themselves. They appear as characters from 1001 Arabian Nights. So far, we know Knuckles is Sinbad, Tails is Ali Baba, and Eggman is the king of Persia.
Oh, this is going to be interesting.
