I both love and loathe putting Marine in the comic. Love because she’s such a drain on the other charas’ sanity. Loathe because half the time I don’t know if I’m using the slang right even though it’ll sound weirder if I don’t use any.

Does Australia even have any raccoons?

On another note, it’s a bit of a shame it took almost ten years for Archie to be able to introduce a second title again. But at least it looks like Sonic Universe is getting off on right foot. Four issue arcs? The return of Off-Panel? It’s like 1999 all over again…

Three updates in a row? Do we do that anymore?

The idea for this comic has been sitting in the back of my mind ever since I saw this strip from Andy’s Another Sonic Comic on deviantArt. (Not our Andy.) It’s eerie how perfect the sprites matched up on the Sonic sheet we edit from. It’s like this strip was begging to be made.

I picked up Sonic and the Black Knight today. Let me get my criticisms out of the way first. The controls are stiff and sluggish, the level design at least on the side missions is frustrating and in some cases broken, combat is frustrating, and some boss duels will drive you up the wall.

Now that that’s out of the way, the opening cutscene is great, the dialogue is hugely improved (though still not really good), the game looks very good, the music’s catchy, and the missions are not as repetitive as in Sonic and the Secret Rings.

All in all, I’d say it’s fair/mediocre. It’s not too bad or too good. It’s somewhere in the middle, where Sonic games nowadays tend to fall. If you liked Secret Rings, it should tickle your fancy. If not, just search for the cutscenes on YouTube and save yourself the frustration.

OH MY GOD THIS IS THE BEST REVIEW I’VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!

There’s this guy? Who used to broadcast on YouTube? But they kicked him off for being too awesome! So he got some cash together and bought his own website just so he could keep losing his sanity on a weekly basis. And after watching this I’m glad he couldn’t keep his opinions to himself.

Back to seriousness. So what is it about this particular review that makes me want to have ThatGuy’s man-babies? Well, sure, he reviews AoStH, but he also manages to slip in a reveiw for SatAM on it’s heels. And personally? I kinda felt vindicated, because let’s face it: There are numerous occasions where I feel silly, and sometimes embarrassed, to admit that I’m a thirty-year-old Sonic fan. I’ve gotten looks from other people that I know for a fact I would never get had I confessed to being a thirty-year-old Mario fan instead. So to actually see Doug’s paroxysms of joy talking about SatAM was rather fulfilling.

So to all you Power Rings readers who’ve never seen SatAM before, check out the link above to catch a few glimpses of what you’ve been missing. And check out some of his other videos while you’re at it. Funny shit, all of it.

I know we don’t have many Mina jokes in Power Rings. I think that’s mostly due to the fact that she’s never done a lot to make fun of.

Saturday Update:

We’re working hard to get another comic up, but it hasn’t been an easy time for any of us lately. Real life obligations are eating into our time for the comic, but rest assured we are working on it. If there’s no update today, there will be one tomorrow.

Wednesday Update:

We’re waiting on some sprites from Gear. So once we have those, we’ll be able to finally update. Check back on Thursday.
