Paper Sonic

Kamal’s delayed in getting the comic done, so to make up for it, here’s some filler made by my good friend Pixle! Check out her DA page here!
A thought came to me earlier when I was reflecting on the game Sega Superstars Tennis. Sonic has been in a lot of different genres lately, and it seems that most of them, Mario did it first. Think about it.
Mario Kart –> Sonic Riders
Mario Party –> Sonic Shuffle
Mario Tennis –> Sega Superstars Tennis
Mario Golf –> Sega Spash Golf
And of course there’s Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Not to mention the upcoming Sonic RPG by Bioware. It makes you wonder what Sonic’s next genre’s going to be… Sonic Strikers Charged, anyone?
Kamal missed getting the comic up Tuesday, but to make up for it, there’s a new wallpaper on the Art page by Pixle, based on this filler. Go check it out, and we’ll be back Wednesday or Thursday!
A Likely Story
G30FF
Kamal needs a bit more time to finish the comic, so here’s some filler to distract you.
Yeah, in Sonic 181, we learned that somehow, Remington was indeed alive and well, and working for the Dark Legion as a Kragok look-alike. Apparently he had been brainwashed by them, but thanks to Knuckles/Enerjak’s meddling, now he’s back to normal. Just in time to be rendered irrelevant by Knuckles/Enerjak sending all the Echidnas away.
Makes me wonder what the point was.

Spoiler Alert?
G30FF
Yep, filler again. Sorry, folks.
Currently, in the Sonic comic, Enerjak, Knuckles’ arch nemesis from his early days, has returned. Only thing is, this time it’s not Demitri, who is currently little more than a floating head in a bubble. There has been plenty of speculation as to who this new Enerjak is, considering that at the same time as Enerjak’s return, Knuckles has disappeared, leading many to make the obvious conclusion: Knuckles is Enerjak.
There are facts that disagree with that idea, though; most notably, I think, that Knuckles’ claws are actually part of his body (and not just glove decorations), while the new Enerjak doesn’t have clawed fists. But that doesn’t stop the speculation. Personally, my money is on Locke or Remmington, but I just know Ian is going to pull the old switcheroo on us all.
Story comic again on Saturday!
He’s Got High Hopes
G30FF
Regular comic resumes Monday, but for now here’s some filler as a cop-out.
I’m sure by now you’ve all heard that Sonic is going to be in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. And if you haven’t, welcome to the internet. The range of reaction to his appearance has run an interesting gamut from outright rage and declaration that Nintendo has lost a sale, to belief that Sonic could very well be a top-tier fighter in the upcoming game. But there is one reaction that I have heard that seems to sum it up.
Like it or not, Sonic hasn’t produced many good games at all since Sonic Adventure 2, or even earlier depending on your perspective. Considering his declining popularity, it’s not unreasonable to assume that he’s in there as simply a fanservice; that he’s present simply to satisfy the fans of his from his glory days on the Genesis, and try to capitalize on the showdown that just about every video gamer from that age was longing for: Sonic vs. Mario. One on one. No olympic games. Just ass-kicking.
I am by no means saying that Sonic’s appearance in Brawl is a bad thing. Hell, I love watching him fight, and am sure that when the game does come out I’ll log plenty of hours beating the snot out of people with Sonic. But for me, the knowledge that Sonic is in the game has been… surreal. Every time I watch a video of Sonic in battle, I have to think for a moment, “Am I really seeing this?” But then my inner fanboy takes over and I wallow in the carnage.
Love him or hate him, Sonic’s in Brawl. Whether you want to play as him, beat the crap out of him, or set up the dream match you know you want to, he’s there, and I for one am glad to see him. All I really know for sure is that I have never been more excited about Brawl since the first trailer was revealed last year. Feb. 10th can’t come fast enough.
In other news, polls for the Sonic Site Awards close tomorrow! Vote for us!
It’s looking unlikely we’ll have a comic on Tuesday, and I have a midterm on Wednesday, so no filler from me. Sorry, all.
A Flock of… Birds
G30FF
This Monday is Canadian Thanksgiving. Happy Turkey Day to everyone! I know it’s been a while since Riders came out, but I’m still a Wave fanboy. So sue me.
The authors all spent today celebrating with their families, so check for an actual story comic some time Monday or Tuesday.
No, seriously.
SEGA Knows What You Want
G30FF
Just a quick filler to tie you over until Kamal gets his problems sorted out.
Over the last week, Kamal and Gear have been switching over to a new ISP. This has not come without its own share of troubles, and so Kamal has spent inordinate amounts of time in communication with tech support personnel from various companies, and as a result has had to put the comic on the back burner for a little while. These difficulties should be resolved soon, so with any luck we’ll be able to get back to a normal updating schedule. Thank you all for bearing with us.
And in relation to this strip… Yeah, it seems that Blaze has been getting quite a bit of screentime. Sonic Rush, Rush Adventure, Sonic 2006, and even in multiplayer mode of Sonic and the Secret Rings and in Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. I wonder why that is…
Arc resumes on Saturday!
Kamal On Strike
G30FF
He’s just kidding, folks. We begin a new arc on Monday!
Yeah, Kamal and I are both eagerly awaiting the Canadian release of Sonic Rush Adventure for the DS. It seems to be a trend up here that Sega games appear in stores about a week after the scheduled release date for the United States. No idea why, but I seriously hope EB Games gets it in this weekend, and that the rumor I heard that we won’t be seeing it until October 10th is false.
